Best practices for resumption after Covid-19 lockdown by AXA Mansard Health
Office environment
• Decontamination – thorough decontamination before resumption and maintenance of regular
cleaning routine of common areas
• Sitting arrangement – desks at 1.5m – 2m apart
• Hygiene – regular hand washing, sanitizers, closed bins, toilet tissue dispenser, wipes
• PPE – 3M and N95 masks for frontline employees – security guards, customer service / front
desk agents
• Compliance with social distancing – remote meetings, closed lunch rooms and meeting rooms
• Clean desk – limit what employees can bring into the building, do not allow employees leave
items on their desks
• Identifying potential risks in certain areas of the office – visitor’s lobby, elevators, stairway as
much as possible limit the number of people in such areas to two or three per time
• Control access – one way in and one-way out
• Look for alternative ways of serving customers if possible without the need for them to be
physically present in your office
• Waste should be separated – wet wastes such as used tissues and wipes should be handled
specially
• Government regulation – stick to the government approved working hours.
Employee Health and welfare
Employee health – baseline analysis of those who are at risk of having covid 19 is necessary
1. Age – Covid 19 is more severe in the elderly ,50 years and above are at risk of developing severe
symptoms of the disease. They should be allowed to stay at home if their job function will
permit them
2. People with pre-existing conditions - health screening and analysis to determine those with
conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer etc. They should stay at home, they are high
risk.
3. Pregnant and nursing mothers
4. Those taking care of the elderly
5. Those whose spouses are healthcare workers
6. Those who rely solely on public transportation system – they can be the source of transmission
in the work environment
Everybody must resume at the office with a facemask
Employees must be trained on basic health and safety protocols to limit the spread of covid 19
Launch health and safety campaigns in the office environment – 2hrs hand washing campaign
etc
Divide into teams and let employees come into the office space in teams / team A work from
home for a week while team B comes to the office. This will reduce the number of people in the
office per time and also make case identification easy
Case identification – anybody with upper respiratory infection should be quickly isolated and
asked to stay at home for 14 days. Cases of common cold and cough should not be overlooked
Employees should keep a mental picture of those they come in contact with daily if possible. It
may be needed for contact tracing.
Use of staff buses or pool cars where available
Remote working tools should be enforced in the work environment
Reach out to your healthcare manager or HMO for assistance on possible cases
Avoid referral of possible cases to private hospitals
Reinforce the need for employees to be socially responsible as their habits and behavior can
impact the lives of others around them in the workplace.
